The Book: THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

“We need not be spectators in all this: politicians aren't the only ones with the power to declare a crisis. Mass movements of regular people can declare one too.” - Naomi Klein

In this book, Klein argues that civilisation is at a point of no return –  “our economic system and our planetary system are now at war”. And its not about carbon, its about capitalism. And capitalism isn't working. We need to drastically transform our failed economic system and build something better. As Klein points out, most of us recognise that climate change is a threat, yet “have not done the things that are necessary to lower emissions because [they] fundamentally conflict with deregulated capitalism”. For corporations whose primary objective is profit, denying climate change is profitable, and as long as it remains profitable, the environment suffers.

We are faced with many problems: the fossil fuel industry, exploitation of resources, inequality, denial, unethical trade, and money, and in this book these problems are complemented with solutions that urge social movement. However, one thing is clear: small, gradual changes will no longer fix this. We need to implement radical change.
